As expected on 21st February 2022 the Prime Minister announced that the legal requirement to self-isolate after testing positive for COVID and the £500 quarantine support payment will end on Thursday 24th February 2022.

The prime minister also confirmed that free COVID testing for the public will be scrapped in England from 1st April 2022. It will however be more focused on the most vulnerable with the UK Health Security Agency set the determine the details. There will be asymptomatic tests free of charge for care home residents, but NHS staff, patients and care system workers will receive free tests only if they develop symptoms of COVID and if there is an outbreak which requires asymptomatic testing to be conducted.
